For our Hamburg office, we are looking to hire a Student Research Assistant starting on August 1, 2025. The position is limited until June 30, 2026. Working hours amount to 20 hours per month and will be compensated according to the standard rate for student research assistants at Universität Hamburg (16.05 €/hour). A first academic degree (B.A. or equivalent) as well as current enrollment at a state-recognized university in Germany are required for employment.
The position is part of the practice-oriented project “Proofing the Academy: Safeguarding Academic Freedom”, funded by the Junge Akademie. The project addresses threats and attacks against academic freedom in Germany and aims to develop practical tools for its protection.
Supporting the conceptualization, preparation, and organization of three workshops
Conducting research and communicating with participants
Organizing travel, accommodation, and catering
Assisting with the content-related preparation and follow-up, especially by supporting virtual project meetings, taking minutes, and conducting research
Communicating and coordinating with the project funder, Die Junge Akademie
You are enrolled in a social science or humanities degree program
You have knowledge in the fields of academic freedom, democratic resilience, and/or far-right strategies aimed at undermining democracy
You have initial experience in event management
You possess excellent communication skills in both German and English
You have a very clear and accurate writing style
You demonstrate a high level of reliability with regard to deadlines and content-related agreements
Insights into scenario development and practical approaches to countering threats to democracy
Insights into the work of a non-university research institute
